Published by rweigel at 1:46 am under Small Business and Tutoring Edit This

So we’re in the middle of the recession, and you’re short on cash flow. What to do? You can have a garage sale. This seems to be everyone’s advice to make a little extra money. But are garage sales really worth all the trouble–not really. Get a 2nd job. This is sound advice; however, aren’t you tired of answering to your boss as it is. Why not start a low overhead home-based business? I know what you’re thinking. Starting a business–that sounds like a lot of work. Well, not really…

It really does not take that much effort to get started. First, go to your county clerk’s office and get a business license. On the drive over, you need to be thinking of what kind of home-based business you want to run. Hair dressing? Tutoring? Internet? Make sure that the name of the business is fitting for the type of industry you want to be in. Second, after getting your business license, go to your bank to set up a business checking account. You need to have a separate account to keep business funds–keeping business funds in the same account as personal funds is commingling and against the law. 3rd, you need to purchase business liability insurance. Do not cut back on liability insurance. If something happens with your business, you do not want to be held personally liable. I’ll try to write a blog on here everyday to discuss how to start, maintain, and grow a home-based business. Please check out my small business beginner’s ehow articles for more help How to Start a Business….
